Notes – Jan 17 2006. On viewing this page today prior to doing a
site update, I found an unexpected problem with it not displaying properly in
Internet Explorer, even though it was displaying correctly in Microsoft Word
2000. Therefore I have substituted an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file
The original hard-copy document could only be scanned as either:-
(a) A single image file for the whole page. This was the only way to ensure exact reproduction of the original. On the other hand, even at full size it was not clear enough to read due to technical issues with the scanning process, in addition it was totally unsatisfactory in terms of a web page on account of taking a long time to open.
(b) A page built up from several smaller image files – the old version formerly displayed on this site. This retained some of the appearance of the original but was still not entirely satisfactory in terms of time taken to open
The Adobe Acrobat .pdf file was produced to (a) eliminate the display problem referred to above, and (b) reduce web server storage space as compared with a .bmp file.
