Guy Saint-Pierre, C.C., BASc, MSc, D.I.C., D.S.A.,

Royal Bank of Canada

Guy Saint-Pierre is one of Canada's most respected business leaders. He began his career as an officer in the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers at Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick. He was elected to the Québec National Assembly in 1970, where he served as Minister of Education and Minister of Industry and Commerce. Mr. Saint-Pierre has since held various executive positions, including President and Chief Executive Officer of the SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., a position he held from 1989 to 1996. In 2001 he was named Chairman of the Board of the Royal Bank of Canada. He has been called upon to sit on a number of boards of large companies such as Alcan Inc., General Motors of Canada Limited, and the Institute for Research on Public Policy. His achievements have led him to become a Companion of the Order of Canada and receive honourary degrees from six Canadian universities. In 1994, he was named CEO of the Year by the Financial Post. He also has been awarded the Sir John Kennedy Medal from the Engineering Institute of Canada and a Gold Medal from the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers. Mr. Saint-Pierre earned his degree in Civil Engineering at Laval University, his Masters of Science from the University of London, and his D.I.C. from the Imperial College of Science and Technology.
